Redux Communications Releases RS-160 - A 'Drop-In' Legacy Over Ethernet/IP Solution on a Singe Chip

MODI'IN, Israel, May 21 -- Redux Communications, a leading fabless chip manufacturer in the networking market, announced today its release of a new breakthrough product in the Redux series of 100 Mbps wire-speed application-specific processors.

The RS-160 is a special purpose 100 Mbps wire-speed network processor that enables a single high-speed packet link to be used to transport both data services and circuit-based E1/T1/J1 services thereby eliminating the cost of a dedicated E1/T1/J1 line. The RS-160 provides point-to-point tunneling of unstructured E1/T1/J1 frames over any Ethernet-based or HDLC-based packet link.

Redux Communications designed the RS-160 for integration into any networking or telephony switching devices, optimizing it for the emerging market of Ethernet First Mile services.

"The RS-160 is proving to be a very attractive solution for many of our device manufacturer customers. Because of its 'drop-in' design which takes care of all the difficult issues of clock recovery, packet labeling and Quality of Service, its very small form factor as well as the robustness of the RS-160's performance resulting from the exclusive use of programmable hardware in the chip, our customers now have a very easy way to port legacy E1/T1 solutions to the rapidly expanding and low cost packet-based services now available." states Daniel Bar-Lev, VP Sales and Marketing at Redux Communications. "We're seeing rapid uptake for the RS-160 solution from markets as diverse as DSL modem manufacturers, enterprise Ethernet switch manufacturers and PBX telephony switch manufacturers. We see this as the beginning of a very strong complement to the VoIP market."
